मध्य प्रदेश के सिवनी जिले में स्थित है एशिया का सबसे बड़ा मिट्टी का बांध, जो बैनगंगा नदी पर बना है। एशिया का सबसे बड़ा मिट्टी से बना संजय सरोवर भीमगढ़ बांध के नाम से जाना जाता है, लगातार हो रही बारिश के चलते इस बांध के 3 गेट खोले गए हैं, जिससे 25000 घन मीटर प्रति सेकंड पानी छोड़ा जा रहा है। संजय सरोवर बांध के गेट खुलते ही निचले इलाकों में पानी भर जाता है। इस वजह से जल संसाधन विभाग ने अलर्ट जारी कर दिया है। अलर्ट में बालाघाट जिला और महाराष्ट्र के गोंदिया एवं भंडारा जिलों में अलर्ट जारी किया गया है।
35 वर्ष बाद भी मजबूत है बांध
संजय सरोवर भीमगढ़ बांध 35 वर्षों बाद भी मजबूत स्थिति में है। जल संसाधन विभाग ने 1972 में बांध निर्माण शुरू किया था, जिसे 1987-88 में पूरा किया था। बांध की कुल लंबाई 3.87 किमी है। इस बांध से सिवनी जिले का केवलारी विधानसभा और बालाघाट जिले से लेकर महाराष्ट्र के कई जिलों में भी खेती किसानी में रौनक आई है। इसके अलावा जल संरक्षण भी बढ़ा है।
3.87 किलोमीटर है लंबाई
सिवनी में 35 साल पहले मिट्टी से बना एशिया का सबसे बड़ा संजय सरोवर भीमगढ़ बांध अब भी पूरी मजबूती के साथ खड़ा है। बैनगंगा नदी के बहाव क्षेत्र में बने बांध में मिट्टी की करीब 42 मीटर (140 फीट) ऊंची दीवार है। बांध की कुल लंबाई 3.87 किमी है। जिसमें मात्र 280 मीटर हिस्सा कंक्रीटीकृत किया गया है। बांध से पानी निकासी के लिए 10 गेट बनाए गए हैं। बांध के उच्चतम क्षमता तक भरने पर करीब 5536 हेक्टेयर क्षेत्र में पानी का भराव व फैलाव होता है।
300 फीट चौड़ी मिट्टी की दीवार से रुक रहा नदी का पानी
बैनगंगा नदी के पानी को रोकने करीब 300 फीट चौड़ी दीवार बनाई गई है। पानी के भराव क्षेत्र का मुख्य हिस्सा मिट्टी के बांध पर टिका है। दशकों बाद भी बांध के मिट्टी की दीवारें कहीं से भी कमजोर नहीं हुई हैं। मिट्टी के कटाव को रोकने के लिए डंप रिपरेप पद्धति का उपयोग किया गया है।
